HAHMP Scholarship Program

Each year for the past 36 years HAHMP has invited college undergraduates and first-year graduate students who are pursuing careers as print, photo, broadcast, online journalists or in public relations, to apply for HAHMP scholarships.

Applicants must plan to attend as full-time students for the entire academic year in a community college or university that is within the United States or Puerto Rico. Applicants must reside in the Greater Houston Area.

HAHMP is committed to diversity and inclusion in media & communications by advocating for + providing fair & accurate media coverage of Houston’s diverse communities through financial assistance/scholarships. We focus on students that show an understanding of the importance of ethical journalism and communication practices, and community engagement.

Thanks to the continued support of various organizations, HAHMP has awarded more than $840,000 in college scholarships to deserving students interested in pursuing careers in media, PR, digital and other communications fields. HAHMP meets at least once a month to discuss issues and topics in the community, country, and the world, and how they affect the Hispanic community. The organization’s main goal — to raise money for its scholarship fund while simultaneously supporting and encouraging young, aspiring media professionals as well as seasoned professional members.

Students must fill out an application form and include school transcripts, family income (recent W2 forms), two letters of reference, a one-page resume and an autobiographical essay or video
